Remember your first time (falling in love with a book, that is)?

My older son has discovered Harry Potter. He's listening to it on my computer, and all he wants to do is be left alone to hear the next chapter. Last night, I let him listen during dinner (he sat at his own table outside on the deck at the house we're renting in Vermont for the month). I'm totally jealous; I remember the first books I dove into and didn't emerge from for anything. It was the summer before third grade, we'd just moved, and the wonderful librarian (Mrs. Distler) watched me check out a new Nancy Drew book every day and never asked why I wasn't playing outside with my friends (what friends?!?).

How about you? Can you remember the books that first let you shut out the world? Or maybe a more recent and beloved read is what's on your mind. Either way, tell!

In first grade, my mother read "Little House on the Prarie" aloud to me. I was totally and completely hooked, we read the whole rest of the series over the entire summer. I also read the Ramona books in a matter of weeks.

I wasn't really into books until I read Harry Potter. It took me awhile to read the first couple of chapters but I eventually got hooked and finished the first five books in 3 weeks.

I read the Amazing Days of Abby Hayes and Nancy Drew series in elementary school. I would always get so excited when the library got in a new book in either series. To this day, I always buy multiple calendars each year because Abby in the book series did and it's a habit I've never grown out of.

Books weren't my thing until one day this friend of mine made me read the Baby-Sitters Club in 4th grade, promising I'd love it. And I did! I read all the books my library had and started discovering other amazing books (Harry Potter, Chicken Soup)
